TL;DR

If you read our Growing 101 guide and immediately got overwhelmed by the shopping list — tent, light, fan, filter, ducting, controller, pots — the VIVOSUN GIY 2x2 is the cheat code. It’s the whole list in one box, pre-matched to fit, with a WiFi controller that runs your fan and light on a schedule so you can stop babysitting timers. For a first grow in a closet or corner, it’s about as close to “plug and grow” as this hobby gets.

What’s in the box

This is a genuine complete kit, not just a tent:

The GrowHub controller is the actual selling point

Plenty of companies sell a tent-plus-light bundle. What makes this one “smart” is the GrowHub E42A+: a WiFi hub with temperature and humidity sensors that your fan and light plug into. Through the app you schedule the light’s on/off cycle and let the controller drive the fan to hold a target temp/humidity automatically.

For a beginner that’s a big deal. Two of the most common ways a first grow goes sideways — forgetting to flip the light schedule and letting heat/humidity run wild — are exactly what this automates away. Set your 18/6 in veg, flip to 12/12 for flower (see our guide), and the box mostly runs itself.

The hits

• One purchase, correctly sized. No mismatched fan-to-tent or underpowered-light guesswork. Everything fits the 2x2.
• Real automation, not a gimmick. Scheduling + sensor-driven ventilation is genuinely useful, and remote monitoring from your phone is reassuring.

• Great fit for stealth/small spaces. A 2x2x4 footprint tucks into a closet.

Not perfect

• 2x2 is small. It’s a 1–2 plant tent. Plants stretch in early flower, and 100W/4 ft² is right-sized, not overkill — if you already know you want a bigger harvest, look at VIVOSUN’s 2.7x2.7 or 4x2 GIY versions instead.
• Ecosystem lock-in. The magic is the GrowHub controller, which is happiest driving VIVOSUN’s own gear. You’re buying into their system, not mixing brands.
• Still a grow, not a microwave. “Smart” automates the boring parts — it does not automate watering, feeding, pH, or training. The fundamentals in our Growing 101 guide still apply.

Verdict

The single best “I want to grow but don’t know what to buy” starter purchase we’d point a beginner to. You trade some flexibility and ultimate size for a kit that’s correctly matched, smell-controlled, and largely self-driving. If a small, stealthy, mostly-automated first grow is the goal, it’s an easy recommend — just go in knowing 2x2 is a one-to-two-plant tent. 4.5/5.
